Simon Cottle

Simon Cottle brings more than 18 years of private equity experience, having led or co-led 13 platform buyouts in healthcare and technology across Europe and the United States, with a written attributed track record of ten investments reflecting a 3.4x gross cash-on-cash average. He focuses on the infrastructure, products and services that lower the cost of healthcare and on businesses built around artificial intelligence.

Before Anneal, Cottle was a Founding Partner of Stanley Capital Partners (SCP), where he spent seven years building a healthcare and technology investment platform and originating and leading investments including Essential Pharma (3.3x), Noden Pharma (6.7x) and the AI company Arietta.ai (37x). He remains an active investor in a portfolio of leading technology and AI companies — including Anthropic, OpenAI, Beam AI, Fintecture and DigitalNet.ai, where he also serves as a Board Director.

Earlier he was a Managing Director, Head of UK and Benelux, and Investment Committee member of Ardian's Large Cap Buyout team in London, where he led investments including Envision Pharma Group (2.5x) and TRIGO (2.4x). Before Ardian he spent nearly four years at HgCapital as Principal and then Director, leading investments such as Zenith (2.9x) and GSF Car Parts (2.0x), and began his private equity career at Cognetas, rising from Senior Associate to Investment Manager. He made Partner from Associate in seven years and was recognised in the inaugural Private Equity News “40 Under 40” list.

Cottle began his career in investment banking and consulting. As an M&A Associate at Deutsche Bank he completed nine transactions across corporate M&A, debt and equity capital markets and defence advisory, and he was previously an Analyst at Citigroup. Earlier still he was a strategy consultant at Arthur D. Little, focused on technology and healthcare, and started out as a software engineer at IBM working on voice recognition and client-server systems.

Cottle holds an MBA from INSEAD and an MA from the University of Oxford, where he was awarded the Richard Blackwell Scholarship and two Oriel College academic prizes, having been one of three top scholars at Shrewsbury School. A former Olympian, he represented Great Britain as a semi-finalist in rowing at the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
